Not only has research proven repeatedly that children, who actively participate in enrichment classes such as drama, art, and music, achieve higher in academics, but also have a greater percentage of succeeding in their life as teens and young adults through the problem-solving tools and self-discipline tactics they acquire through engaging in these types of activities. Here at Manhattan Academy, we offer a wide variety of subjects that your child can enjoy. We have something for everyone!
We change our offerings from time to time. Here's a list of what's available now!
Golf: Total Golf Adventure will teach the children the fundamentals of golf, prepare them to play on a golf course and then introduce them to all forms of competitive golf as they advance through a unique 5 level program. Children are divided into small groups by age and level. All materials are provided.
Gymnastics: This class will enhance your child's balance, coordination, flexibility, strength and self-confidence, offering a positive outlet to release extra energy. Classes feature a cardiovascular warm-up, stretching techniques, obstacle course, and all that is needed to help develop your child's gymnastics skills in a fun and safe environment.
Tae Kwon Do: Classes are designed to improve student's strength, flexibility, stamina, balance and coordination. Classes start with stretching and warm-up exercises; then move on to various self-defense techniques, with each child achieving success at a personal pace.
Tennis: This class develops and improves children's physical fitness skills, builds sportsmanship, self-esteem, and personal character. They provide the latest portable equipment, making the learning the game of tennis fun and safe!
Dance: Dance is taught in an exciting and innovative way that introduces children to foundational technique, rhythmic movement, and choreography. Props and imagery are utilized to help children relate to the exercises being taught.
Art: All materials are acid-free and time resistant so that they will last for years on the refrigerator without yellowing! Students will learn artistic concepts such as the color wheel, mixing colors, positive and negative space, print making, drawing techniques, etc.
Jewelry Making: What could be more fun than wearing something that you made yourself? Learn to make necklaces, earrings, bracelets, rings and more. The children will learn basic beading, jewelry designing and even make their own jewelry boxes to store their finished work.
Piano: Your child will experience a creative and fun approach to learning how to read and play music on the piano. One-on-one private lessons will ensure that the student is moving at his/her own pace. These lessons will cover technique, music terminology, ear training and sight-reading as well.
Vocal: Students will develop a foundation of breathing techniques, articulation, and ear training while surveying different periods of music. Focused learning includes singing with musical phrasing, dynamics, and expression while learning how to harmonize with others. There will be opportunities for live performances throughout the South Bay communities.
Drama Club: Lights! Camera! Action! This course will offer your child the opportunity to discover acting and the art of storytelling in a group setting. We will participate in new skills including: voice support and diction exercise, pantomime, improvisation, exploring different types of movement, and gaining confidence when speaking and performing in front of a group. Students in the class will have the opportunity to work in both individual and group settings and use the skills they have learned in our performances.
Chess: This educational, fun-filled class is designed for all ages and levels of expertise. A new and exciting lesson, which will be specifically tailored to the group's skill level, will be given each week.
